Avenue Supermarts Limited: Result Updates


Update: Q2 Numbers FY 2019-20

Avenue Supermarts Limited (ASL), one of the largest food & grocery retailers in India, declared its standalone and consolidated numbers on October 12, 2019 for the quarter and half year ended September 30, 2019.

Standalone Numbers:

Total Revenue for the quarter ended September 30, 2019 stood at INR 5,949 Cr as compared to INR 4,872 Cr in the same period last year; y-o-y growth of 22.1 percent.

Earnings before Interest, Tax, Depreciation and Amortization (EBITDA) in Q2 FY20 stood at INR 515 Cr as compare to INR 390 Cr in the corresponding quarter of last year; y-o-y growth of 32.3 percent.

Net Profit of INR 333 Cr for Q2 FY 20 as compared to INR 226 Cr in the corresponding quarter of last year; y-o-y growth of 47.7 percent.

Basic Earnings per share (EPS) for Q2 FY20 stood at INR 5.34 as compared with INR 3.62 for Q2 FY19.

For the Half Year ended September 30, 2019 (H1FY20):

Total Revenue stood at Rs. 11,730 crore, , y-o-y growth of 24.4%

EBITDA of Rs. 1,111 crore; y-o-y growth of 36.8%

PAT stood at Rs. 669 crore; y-o-y growth of 40.4%

Basic EPS for H1FY20 stood at Rs.10.72 , as compared to Rs. 7.63 for H1FY19

13 stores were added in the H1FY20

 

CEO-MD Speaks:

Commenting on the financial performance of the company Mr. Neville Noronha, CEO & Managing Director, Avenue Supermarts Limited, said –

Revenue growth for the quarter was slightly lower than our estimates while gross margin saw improvement over the corresponding period last year due to better revenue mix.

PAT margin improvement is in line with revenue growth and also aided by revision in corporate tax rates.

Avenue Supermarts Limited, the operator of D-Mart chain in India, has presented its Q1 numbers today after market hours. The Company’s PAT grew by 43.39% Y-o-Y to INR 250.61 Cr as compared to INR 174.77 Cr as compared to period year ago. Listed below are a few highlights –

Revenue

Avenue Supermarts’ revenue from operations grew by 26.72% year-on-year to INR 4559.42 Cr to as compared to INR 3598.12 Cr for the period ends on 30 June 2017.

The Company’s April to March 2018 quarter revenue stood at INR 3809.96 Cr showing a growth of 19.67% QoQ basis.

The Company’s total revenue for the period ends on 30 June 2018 stood at INR 4573.67 Cr which was INR 3621 Cr a period year ago.

Profit

Avenue Supermarts’ net profit after tax for Q1 FY 19 stood at INR 250.61 Cr which was up by almost 50% QoQ when compared to period ends on 31 March 2018 (INR 167.10 Cr)

The company’s PAT margin improved from 4.8% in Q1 FY18 to 5.5% in Q1 FY19.

Basic Earnings per share (EPS) for Q1 FY19 stood at Rs. 4.02, as compared with Rs. 2.80 for Q1 FY18.

  • Basic EPS for Q1 FY19 stood at INR 4.02, as compared to INR 2.80 for Q1 FY18
  • 2 new Stores were added in the Q1 FY19

The stock price of Avenue Supermarts (DMart) traded more than 8% higher when compared to its 89 EMA and 19% higher when compared to its 200 EMA.
